WATCH: Ramer, Tonnos Set New TSSAA State Meet Record

NEW STATE MEET RECORD

Ravenwood's Miles Ramer won his first cross country state championship as a sophomore but missed last year's state meet with injury. This year, he entered the race as the statistical favorite but fellow seniors, Farragut's Matteo Tonnos and Dobyns-Bennett's Luke Mussard would not make reclaiming the title easy for him. Tonnos and Mussard front ran through the first of the race with Ramer maintaining contact. By after the second lake loop, Ramer had overtaken Mussard but still had work to catch Tonnos. Ramer and Tonnos came down to the wire in one of the closest finishes we've seen at a state meet in quite some time. Ramer finished in 15:00 with Tonnos right behind in 15:01. Both marks were faster than the previous record of 15:09 set by Brodey Hasty of Brentwood in 2018. Here are both runner's reactions after the race.

Congratulations to both of these runners on their performances however, it's entirely possible some runners tomorrow morning lower this mark.
