Eli Cramer Memorial Time Trial To Feature Multiple Distances

Eli Cramer Memorial Time Trial

In 2022, the first iteration of this event took place as a 5k road race but will transition to a time trial under the lights for it's second installment. The event will be open to middle schoolers who will have the opportunity to race a 1600 meter on the track followed by the high school division that will race 3200 meters. Naturally, it will take place at Riverdale High School, where Eli Cramer attended, on Saturday, July 29th starting at 6:30. Registration will end on July 24th.

To say Eli was passionate about running is an understatement. He never went on a fall break trip because the Jesse Owens Classic was always the first or last weekend of the break and he knew he would have a good chance of dropping a new PB because it was a fast course. On the vacations he always found a way to get up early or make some other adjustment so he could get his run in without disrupting what was going on that day. He never cut corners in workouts. He knew grinding in June and July would pay huge dividends in October and November. Some of his teammates, however, didn't see the connection between suffering through a hot and humid workout in the summer and competing at State in November. He would encourage them when they wanted to quit and would explain that the work they were doing would pay off when it counted. Unfortunately, Eli is no longer here to encourage and cheer on his fellow runners. That is the inspiration behind the middle school and high school time trial we are putting together. Some runners will still have trouble seeing the long game, but perhaps a preseason time trial at the end of July is close enough to provide motivation during those grueling, endless summer workouts. Proceeds from this race will go to the LIVE like ELI Foundation to provide scholarships to graduating seniors and financial assistance to area running programs.
