Stewart's Creek Girls Stand Out
In the first race of the day, sophomore Bella King of Stewart's Creek ran in the first heat of the girls 3200m where she finished first in twelve flat. While that's not a particularly notable time in the overall context of state rankings she looked strong by comparison beating the field by over a minute and made a mental note of the performance. As the day went on, Red colored jerseys continued post notable performances throughout the day at every distance including King.
The first open sprint event was won by Junior Ryleigh Simmons who (below) won the 100m dash with at 12.81.
In the following event, the 1600m, King would place second and not just in the slower heats. She would come down to the wire with Sovereign Grace's Ada Zecher as both girls finished in 5:30 and change with Zecher winning by just .06.
In the event following that, fellow sophomore Camryn Merryman would win the 400m dash in 59.04 which is a four second improvement over her performance here last year.
Simmons would end the day finishing 3rd in the 200m, Merryman would triple back in the 800m finishing second and 6th in the 200m, and King would triple as well finishing 5th in the 800m PR-ing in all three of her events. With Sophomore Brea Vann, who qualified in the open 400m last year, in the mix as well, the Lady Red Hawks are an emergent team in Section 2 across a wide spectrum of event distances.
