Tennesseans Advance At Champs South And Other Regionals

Other Regional Qualifiers

For the first time since 2016, a Tennessee team will be represented in Portland next Saturday. The Admirals of Farragut narrowly edged Miami Havana 105 to 111 to claim the Southeast Championship. McCallie and Brentwood were the next team finishers with 115 and 147 respectively. As it was at state, the Admirals put three in very quickly with Trevor Coggin, Matteo Tonnos, and Braden Ebbert finishing in the top twenty with their backend finishing less than 30 seconds behind. Harrison Cunningham and Quinn Deguira would round out the scoring for the navy and white. McCallie and Brentwood were not selected for at large bids.  The last team to qualify was Brentwood who went on to place 3rd at the national meet.

Dobyns-Bennet's Luke Mussard will be joining them on the journey to Oregon next weekend. The junior placed 4th overall with a time of 15:07. This was definitely a bounce-back race for Mussard whose last outing saw him finish 6th at state where he was expected to be challenging for the title. As the tweet states, it was a historic day for the history of cross country running for The Tribe.

And last but not least, the full roster for the Webb School of Knoxville was finally able to score as a team and did not disappoint. The Spartans became the first girls team in state history (correct me if I'm wrong) to qualify for Portland. With freshman Carolina Areheart leading the way with a 19th place overall finish in 18:18, the remaining scoring runners crossed within 30 seconds of her. Here's a breakdown of their scoring runners.

Congrats to all these runners and good luck next week.
