Sanders Ferry Park has held cross country meets since the early 2000's but until recently, mostly only attracted local talent. When it became host of the state meet starting in 2020, the number of teams in and out of the state that want to race there has expanded substantially culminating in a showdown of national caliber talent on Saturday night. Connor Ackley (Ohio), Keegan Smith, and Owen Clemons all ran under the previous record of 15:10 set last year by Miles Ramer with Ackley coming out on top with an incredible time of 14:45. It was the senior's third time under the fifteen minute mark this season. If this remains the state course moving forward, the likelihood of more teams from out of state wanting to run in an Under The Lights atmosphere against Tennessee's finest will only increase from here on out.
