Boys 110m Hurdles
Last season, Bartlett's Kylan Bernard ran the 110m hurdles twelve times and placed first in all four of those races. The only hurdler that beat him was White Station's Shamari Covington. The cover photo is from one such race. Covington ran the race ten times and only lost once. His one loss was the State Championship race where Bernard beat him for the first and only time of the season.
On Saturday they raced for the first time of the 2022 season.
The race very much mirrors how the state meet race went. Covington is very strong through the first five hurdles and Bernard is very strong over the last five. Kylan's 14.22 ties Jakobe Tharps best time this season and Shamari's 14.28 is good enough for a TN #4.
Let that since in for a moment. In the first week of April we have four hurdlers at 14.28 or better?! The current top five are all under 14.5. Current rankings look like this.
Hurdler | Time |
14.22 | |
Kylan Bernard | 14.22 |
14.23 | |
Shamari Covington | 14.28 |
14.34 |
Based on a quick look in past years, I'm not sure the class as a whole as the fire power to set an all time mark for runners under 15.00 but it's possible we could put a record number under 14.00. Bernard, Covington, and Tharp will all faceoff eventually in AAA while Moore and Flemmons are on a collision course in Class AA. It's an exciting event to follow this year.
