Future Stars: Kyla Joy - Class of 2025

Future Stars

Every week this season we are going to feature an underclassmen on our site whose performances caught our attention. This will be a great opportunity for us to shine a spotlight on athletes who are on the cusp of becoming "household names" in the Tennessee Track and Field community. Feel free to submit suggestions as you see fit.

Kyla Joy

While filming at the Siegel High School Opener a couple of Saturdays ago, one race stood out while I was filming and it wasn't technically the "fast heat" of any of the events. It was the 7th heat of eleven in the girls 400m dash. You can watch it here.

Kyla Joy, a freshman from Oakland High School who had only run the 400m dash once before in 8th grade, ended up posting a time that none of the runners in the final 4 heats would eclipse and she would end up winning event with a 62.1. That time currently ranks her 20th overall against athletes that have likely had the opportunity to run in better conditions. Among freshman, she currently ranks 4th. Earlier in the day she finished 3rd in the 100m dash with a 13.33. We caught up with Kyla this week to get her thoughts on her first high school race.

If you're in Section 2 this season, be on the lookout for this up and coming sprinter from Oakland.
