Coming into the race, Overton's Jon Coulter and Tyler Ebbert were ranked #1 and #2 respectively in the event but had not yet raced head to head. On Saturday, Ebbert and Coulter stepped on the track together in Lexington where Ebbert was able to beat Coulter and dip under his previous state leading time by just under half a second. With a US #2 performance in the event though, it really turned into a "who could hold on" situation as the pace went out in 55 over the first 400 meters.
