2021 Moments of the Year
To finish off 2021, we're going to countdown the MileSplit TN Top 10 Moments of the Year. Each day one 'moment' will be posted in the morning and one in the afternoon so check back as they get posted. As you'll see throughout the countdown, last year was filled with incredible drama, can't miss racing, and record breaking history. Enjoy.
#10 Cheeseman, Smith Race at Eastbay
While Eastbay may be what gets designated as the "moment" of the year, Abby Faith Cheeseman's and Keegan Smith's freshmen cross country campaign as a whole could be in consideration here. Cheeseman and Smith both finish the season ranked number one overall for Tennessee, never lost to an in state opponent throughout the season, and sit three and one respectively for freshmen nationally. Here's what they had to say at the course preview day in San Diego.
Abby Faith Cheeseman's Freshman PR was 17:13 at the Division II Middle Region Championships.
Keegan Smith was the only Freshmen in the country to break the 15-minute mark this season for 5k.
Smith finished 35th clocking a 16:02 while Cheeseman finished 31st in 18:22. While these may seem like disappointing results for athletes who had such potential heading into the race, the best is yet to come for these runners and it won't be their only opportunity to race in San Diego I feel.
