Douglas/Allen Duel to 1-2 Finish
Like Winders, Will Douglas defended his 2020 victory at Dresden with win and possible course record with a time of 16:05. The previous record was 16:09 set in 2019 by Chester Co.'s Evan Allen, whose brother Tucker Allen went toe to toe with Douglas for the first two miles before pulling away late on Tuesday. This is a slight improvement from Douglas' 2020 time of 16:11. He's clearly the leader in the clubhouse after his state championship in Hendersonville but it appears as though Camden Central may have improved overall as a team as well. Central's best team average for ALL OF 2020 was 19:16. Yesterday they just averaged 18:55. With the new AA/A they will need to continue to level up their average if they intend to improve on their 15th place finish at state.
While Douglas doesn't have much to improve on when it comes to individual standings, Tucker Allen does. He finished 43rd at state last year and his only two times under 17 in his junior campaign were at Jesse Owens and RunningLane... two notably fast courses where a lot of people have their PR. Yesterday he ran 16:34 for his opener. He's clearly used the momentum from a 5th place finish in the Large Division I 1600m at State in May into his summer training and is ready to hit the ground running this fall.
