Alcoa & Signal Mountain: Why they won Small Division I

Alcoa Boys

Hand Up... I did not see this coming but I didn't really dig into the entries as much as I should have because of all the classifications I had this one going to the Firebirds but my congratulations go out to Coach Frary and the Tornados for their victory. Though the outright victories were sparse, their volume of scorers were not.

Take a 3rd place cross country program and combine them with athletes from a State Champion football team and  you get the winning formula for a State Track and Field Championship. Abdul Jaber placed 3rd, 6th, and 3rd in the distance events on Tuesday while Jordan Harris won the Long Jump, placed 7th in the 100, and 4th in the 200m.

Jordan Harris jumped a 22' 11.25" in the finals of the Long Jump competition which ended the season at TN #9.

As for the Firebirds, there are probably a number of paths to victory that Coach Davis has already played out in his head but with the runner up finish one thing was clear, Barion Brown is a special sprint talent. Though football is his primary sport, I hope he doesn't forego his senior track season to early enroll in December wherever it is he eventually commits to. State records are on the line if he returns.
