Houston Track Classic
This fall was my first experience with a cross country meet in Memphis and it didn't disappoint. The atmosphere of the night races in Shelby Farms Park is second to none. It rivals Steeplechase and in my opinion surpasses it. This weekend was my first experience with the Houston Track Classic and similarly, it did not disappoint. Even without Tyra Nabors and Marius Steward competing, Saturday produced these results:
And add TN #2 800m and 3200m out of Bartlett's Landen McNair on Friday and Saturday.
I'm not going to go into great detail on this race because a
full recap will be coming later by Ted Paduck but here are some quick
observations:
- Memphis Central Boys lacks depth in field events to be a main player for the state title but with only two seniors on the team, they could be a year away from being the favorite.
- Houston's Eva Gautreaux and Olivia Freeman are a problem.
- Reed brothers live up to hype.
- Boys can't have a "bad day" in Section 4 Long Jump or 300m Hurdles and expect to win. Those events are deep.
I was thoroughly impressed and will definitely be back. Go check out our Instagram @MileSplit_TN for video recap in the highlights and go to the meet page to view interviews and race video.
