 The title of Erich Maria Remarque’s great novel about World War I, Im Westen Nichts Neues, known in English as, All Quiet on the Western Front, would suffice as a current situation report from the western end of the State.  So it is now, just 3 days away from West Tennessee Middle School Cross Country Regional Championship (WTMSXCRC).  Here, in the western end of the state, there is nothing new.  Other than the persistent sound of raindrops arriving at the surface, it is very quiet around here. 

 

Just as the rain filled the trenches of the combatants’ trenches during “The Great War”, so it has 

flooded the racing line at Shelby Farms this fall.  So great was the rainfall and the worry about 

damage to the course that yesterday’s final local league meet of the 2009 middle school cross 

country season, the PAA Cross Country Championship, was canceled.  League officials are 

discussing a probable re-scheduling of this meet to early next week.
