On August 22nd, Christian Brothers High School (CBHS) in Memphis hosted professional middle-distance runners during the 4th Ed Murphey Classic which, as always, produced some fast times!
Murphey Classic meet director Nick Dwyer wants to make sure the red surface of the Tom Nix Stadium track does not cool off this Fall.
On November 14th, Memphis Youth Athletics will be hosting the Memphis Fall Track Classic under the lights of Tom Nix Stadium at CBHS. The event will include high school 3200m races and open 5000m races.
Given the many race cancellations so far in 2020 due to the pandemic, these races will provide an additional racing opportunity for distance runners.
The event will allow high school runners to capitalize on their XC fitness and an opportunity to chase 3200m personal bests.
Also, since most NCAA conferences have cancelled fall championships and competitions (cancellations that may extend beyond the indoor track season), the Memphis Fall Track Classic will give regional college runners a chance to test their fitness and compete unattached in the Open 5000m.
To date, all we can say is that given the teams and athletes who have shown interest in this event, meet director Nick Dwyer will get his wish to keep the Tom Nix Stadium track warm in November!
