The TSSAA Board of Controls met on Tuesday to discuss coronavirus schedule adjustments.
They ruled that the status of spring sports won't be decided at this point.
Executive director Bernard Childress doesn't want to make that call just yet.
"As far as Spring Fling is concerned, we want to be flexible (with the dates) and see what happens," he said.
So for now, it will be up to individual schools and districts to decide if they want to compete or not in the regular season. The TSSAA will not intervene in regular season track meets run by local schools.
The Board of Controls affirmed that stance on Tuesday, allowing local school districts and individual institutions to make that call on their own. They also confirmed that even if a school elects not to compete in the regular season, they would still be permitted to compete in the postseason.
Childress went on to add that there have been discussions about moving Spring Fling, when the TSSAA State Outdoor Track Championships will run May 19-21.
There's a chance the meet could be run as late as early-June if the TSSAA decides to go in that direction. That plan was discussed at Tuesday's meeting, but the majority of the conversation stemmed around the state basketball tournament, which is still postponed until further notice from the board.
