Performers of the Weekend: 4/23

Henry County senior Titus Winders had a monster weekend up in Kentucky at the Eastern Relays.

Winders threw down a huge personal best in the 3200 on Friday night. He finished in second place with a Tn No. 1 8:52. His personal best before that was 9:01, which came in November for a postseason time trial. But he wasn't done yet. Winders came back on Saturday to finish third in the mile with a season best 4:21. For a guy who is obviously comfortable at longer distances, showing that kind of range is awfully impressive.

On the girls side, Southwind's Breanna Miles is one of the top girls performers this past weekend. She ran a new TN No. 1 in the 400 at 56.00 to win the Volunteer Track Classic.

Miles now owns the top mark in the state for both 200 and 400 meters. Her 23.95 at the SCIAA meet at Southwind earlier this month gave her the top spot in any division. Also, she's just a sophomore. Miles is one of the many talented Memphis Jaguars who compete with the best of the best all year long. So far this season, it's showed.

Brentwood's Katherine Coffey set the new TN No. 1 in the shot put at the Doug Hall Relays on Saturday. Although even the field events in the meet are scored as a team relay, Coffey made sure she paved the way for her Bruins to get the victory. She's also got the state lead in the discus, which she got back at the Williamson County Championships earlier this month.

Coffey's personal best is 43-11.5. She threw that mark at the State Championship last May, and it was enough for first place. In fact, Coffey hasn't lost a shot put competition in the state of Tennessee since June of 2016. That's 13 straight wins.
