Pennsylvania's Best Goes South: A Look At The PA Athletes Competing At The Va Showcase

Kyle Garland (Germantown Academy)

Garland hasn't backed down from competition this season in what has been a busy season for the Georgia signee. He's had a huge season that has included PRs and wins at major invitationals all along the way.

What's on his plate this weekend?

Garland is entered in two of his best events: the 55 meter hurdles and the high jump. In the 55 meter hurdles, Garland remains at US#1, a place he's been mid-December's AT&T Coaches Hall Of Fame Invitational at the Armory. Garland will look to improve upon that time he set there, 7.25, and he'll get the best competition he's seen all season. Kurt Powdar of Oscar Smith (VA) is US#2 having run 7.33 on the season. This will be a battle.

In the high jump, Garland will look to take back the top spot in the nation. He was US#1 in the event before Mayson Conner of Nebraska jumped 7-0.25 at Texas A&M last week. Garland, whose outdoor best is 7-2 is surely itching to take back that spot. Now US#2 with a jump of 6-11, Garland will be pushed in the event by fellow US#2 Trey Causey of John Handley (VA), as well as US#6 Joshua Prince Gilliard of Colgan (VA).
