We'll post live updates from the 2018 KYA Classic here in this thread throughout the day.
You can watch the meet LIVE here.
Two Mile
Davis Holliday took the first race of the day in the boys two mile. Holliday edged out Seth Bowden and Cole Bullock for the win.
The Franklin High School senior finished in 9:17 to start the day's festivities.
On the girls side, Knoxville Catholic's Callie Tucker took the first race of the day, winning the girls 2 mile in 12:00 flat. Sarah Taylor wasn't too far behind -- finishing in 12:06.
One MIle
Woodstock High School junior Brynne Sumner took the fast section of the girls mile. She led for most of the race, staying on the inside shoulder of both Nyah Hernandez and Shila Kapaya.
Sumner broke away in the final 150 meters, separating herself from the field to secure the win.
She officially finished in 5:17, followed by Kailee Perry and Landri Wilcox.
But Sumner wasn't done. She came back in the 800 meters and grabbed another victory. We caught up with her afterward.
Jake Renfree led for the duration of the boys one mile. And he finished in the lead too.
Renfree won the race in 4:30.58 officially, which is just shy of his second time under 4:30. His personal best came last season at the KIL Championship, where he ran 4:26.
Davis Holliday pulled off a tough double, coming back from the two mile just a few hours ago this morning. He was up there alongside Renfree for most of the race, but ended up ninth in the final results.
Brentwood junior Elias Sandifer ended up in second after running a smart race and closing hard in the second half. He came in with a 4:35, just ahead of Gavin Cooper.
Later on in the boys 800, Renfree was back in the lead again. But not until the final 50 meters.
Renfree sat behind Zac Cantrell, who led for the duration of the race. That is, until Renfree snuck by him for the win on the final straightaway.
He finished the day with 20 points in the two mid-distance events -- running 4:30 and 1:59. He spoke to us afterward about the challenges of that double.
Field Events
On Friday night, we saw a nationally elite performance in the girls shot put from Kori McDaniel.
She threw a US Top 10 mark of 43-2.25 to take the competition, edging out Soteria Russell, who also posted a US Top 20.
McDaniel currently sits in a tie for seventh in the national standings. Russell sits at 18th with her throw of 41-5.
In the long jump, West High School's Sebastian Latorre just set a new TN No. 1, surpassing Tyler Jacobs of USN.
Latoree jumped 21-1 on his third jump to take the lead in the competition. And that was all he needed to secure the win.
Darian Barksdale also had his best mark of the day on his third jump. He jumped 20-10.75 for second place.
The girls long jump early this morning featured another US Top 20 mark. Daloria Boone jumped 18-7.25 to outpace the rest of the field by over a foot. That jump places her No. 13 on the national leaderboard here in the early season.
Boone has already jumped 19-0 this season to win the Hoover Alumni Invitational a few weeks ago. She's fifth on the national leaderboard so far this season.
