Bryan College added two solid student-athletes to the 2009-2010 recruiting class. Local standout Alex Stephens of Cleveland High committed to the Lions, while Orlando based senior Jason McLeod of Circle Christian School chose to compete for Bryan as well.
Alex Stephens won his second consecutive Region 3 AAA cross country title this fall at Fletcher Park and finished third at the annual area championships in the Front Runner Invitational. He set personal bests of 2:05 and 4:36 for the 800 and 1600 meter runs during 2008. Alex finished 8th last spring at the Tennessee High School State Track & Field Championship in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:49.
Jason finished ninth in the 1A race at the Florida High School State Championship this fall after winning his Region 2 and District 3 meets the previous weeks. He set a CCS school record of 16:00.69 at the FL Runners.com Invitational meet. Jason was named to the Orlando Sentinel’s All-Central Florida Boys Cross Country Team. Last spring Jason set personal bests on the track with times of 2:03 and 4:36 for the 800 and 1600 respectively.
"We are super excited to have commitments from two talented athletes. They will have an impact on our roster next fall and into the future. They both possess a great work ethic and when you combine that with their talents we expect great things from these two young men. Everyone in the area knows and respects Alex for his performances on the track, but probably more so for his great personality and sportsmanship. Jason is a young senior at the age of 16 and makes his efforts this fall even more impressive. I'm looking forward to the opportunity of working with these guys and helping them reach new levels of success," said Bryan College Head Coach Rodney Stoker.
