Evan Collins, signed scholarship papers with Austin Peay

 Evan Collins, a University High School senior, signed scholarship papers with Austin Peay State University Cross Country/Track & Field this week.  Evan has run with the US Cross Country team since the 6th grade and earned All Watauga Conference honors in 2005, 2006, and 2007, All Region1A/AA in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and was captain of the 2007 TSSAA Boys 1A/AA State Championship team.  Collins set his personal record for 5K at the 2007 Eye Opener Invitational, SpartanburgSC with a time of 17:00.  He currently competes in the 3200m, 1600m, and 4X800m relay for US Track & Field and received 2008 All Watauga Conference honors in each event.  Evan has earned 4 state championship berths under University High School Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Gene Cahill. Evan was also the point guard for University High’s Boys’ Basketball team which gained Final Four status in this year’s TSSAA State Tournament.  His buzzer beater 2-pointer helped the Jr. Bucs win the 2008 Region1A Championship against Watauga Conference foe Hampton and a home berth for their eventual Sub-State win against Wartburg. He was named 2008 All Watauga Conference and to the 2008 All Region 1A tournament team.  He is an honors student at University School and a Boy Scout.  He is the son of Larry and Chris Collins and has three brothers, Ryan, twin Sean, and Alden.
