Blacksburg, VA - Bryan College freshmen Josh Bradley qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships in two events over the weekend at the Virginia Tech Challenge, held at Rector Fieldhouse.
On Friday evening, Bradley finished third in the 1000 meter run in his section, with a time of 2:31.35 putting him under the automatic qualifying time. Redshirt freshmen Daniel Goetz finished fourth in the same section in 2:33.31 to hit the provisional time for nationals. Maryland's Tommy Friscia took first finishing .28 ahead of Bradley.
Saturday afternoon saw more promising results as Bradley snagged another qualifier when he ran the provisional time in the 800 meter run. Bradley's 1:56.91 is a new school record for Bryan and saw him finish second in his section to Duke's Sam Bowler. The time left him 14th overall in a field of 39 athletes.
"Josh had a solid thousand race, and his eight-hundred was probably a better performance, although he made a small mistake that cost him the win. His talent is very noticeable with his explosiveness late in the races. It was fun watching him go by six athletes in the last seventy meters of the race. Goetz's thousand run was so-so, but he'll be fine when he lines up again. It was great experience and I believe it is important to get our atheltes in quality meets such as the Viriginia Tech Challenge." said coach Rodney Stoker.
The Lions will next compete at the Virginia Intermont Indoor / Outdoor Last Chance meet held at Intermont on February 24.
