Transfers look to bolster Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (June 17. 2006) --- Milligan College cross country and track and field head coach Chris Layne recently announced the addition of three transfers for the 2006-7 season.

Leading the way is Jamal Phelps, a junior college transfer from Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, Az. Phelps, who attended Waukegan High School in Chicago, IL, holds a personal best of 47-6.05 (14.49 meters) in the triple jump and earned All-American honors at the 2005 junior college national championships.

Joining Phelps from Paradise Valley is middle-distance standout Nicole Dodgen. Dodgen owns a personal best of 2:24 for 800 meters. Dodgen attended Cocnino High School in Flagstaff, Az where she earned team MVP honors and student-athlete honors her senior season.

Also joining the track and cross country programs next Fall will be MacKenzie LaBonte, a transfer from East Tennessee State University. LaBonte led the Lady Bucs with an 18th place finish at the 2005 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships, covering the 5k course in 18:47. LaBonte owns track best of 2:18 (800 meters) and 4:52 (1500 meters).

"We're confident each of these talented student-athletes will bolster our program immediately, on and off the field of play," said Layne.
