Lakewood Ranch's Falco Stars In Multiple Events For Mustangs Todd Grasley Jan 24, 2017

In 2016, Lakewood Ranch High School won the 4A state championship by six points over South Florida power Southridge. The Mustangs' first ever state championship was in large part due to then junior Sophia Falco who scored 32 points out of the team's total 66. Falco, a Vanderbilt signee, was runner-up in the 100m dash, 5th in the 200, first in the long jump, and runner-up in the triple jump. We caught up with her before the official start of the 2017 track season.

So it's been a busy couple of days. Last Wednesday I had a meet at Illinois Wesleyan where I ran in the 4x200 and I pole vaulted. I anchored the 4x200 and I felt like I ran a pretty good leg but I got spiked in the knee when I was passing a girl. After my race I was not feeling very well because I was very light headed and dizzy for some reason.

Reynoldsburg Senior Faith Washington is one of the most accomplished runners in Ohio.  She has the State's leading time in the 100m hurdles (14.30).  She has the State's 2nd fastest time in the 300H (43.48) and is a member of Reynoldsburg's State time leading 4x100 (46.44) and 4x400 (3:52.92) relay teams.  She also has been instrumental over the past three years in helping to lead the Reynoldsburg girls team to three State D1 Team titles.  She and her Reynoldsburg teammates have been busy this Spring and as they prepare for their upcoming conference championships and Districts, Faith provided the time for us to talk about her past accomplishments and her goals and expectations for this year.

Louisville, KY- The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) will host 97 colleges and universities from 20 states in the 9th Annual Greater Louisville Classic (GLC),  which once again will be the largest college meet contested in the south. The Classic, run Saturday October 2nd, will bring together some of the top college cross country programs in the nation, as over 2,000 athletes are expected to compete at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The event will not only feature vast quantity, but the overall quality of the competing teams continues to improve with each year. The field includes 29 men's teams and 23 women's teams that are currently ranked in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Div- I Regional, NCAA Div.
