Updated Schedule for 44th Trojan Timing Classic

Beginning in 1976, Kingsport track enthusiast Rick Earnest and local coaches had a dream.

They approached Times News Executive Sports Editor Ron Bliss with the idea of an all-star track meet putting the best talent from the region on display.

*MAJOR CHANGE*: THERE WILL BE *TWO* SECTIONS (OF NINE PARTICIPANTS IN EACH SECTION) OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL LANED TRACK EVENT.

INDIVIDUAL FIELD EVENTS WILL STILL HAVE ONE SECTION, BUT THE SIZE WILL BE 18 PARTICIPANTS. LONGER DISTANCE RACES (1600 AND 3200) MAY BE COMBINED DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS. THERE WILL BE ONE SECTION OF NINE (9) IN EACH RELAY.

*MAJOR CHANGE*: THE ENTRY WINDOW WILL CLOSE ON SUNDAY, APRIL 21 AT 11 P.M. NO FURTHER MEET RESULTS WILL BE TAKEN AFTER THAT DATE. A START LIST WILL BE RELEASED ON TUESDAY, APRIL 23 AFTER THE SCRATCHES.

The top 18 entries (including ties in field events) in each event will be eligible to compete. Accepted entries will be based on season bests, not personal bests.

There is no limit for number of entries per individual event, but there is still a limit of one relay team. **ALL ATHLETES MUST MEET ENTRY STANDARDS LISTED BELOW**

Entries will be done online through Milesplit.

There will be a period for scratches from Monday, April 22 until Tuesday, April 23 at 10 p.m. No scratches will be accepted after Tuesday and you will have to wait until meet day to scratch.

Teams that are eligible are on an invitational basis ONLY.

Field event athletes will get four attempts. There will be live results available at www.trojantiming.com

If you have to make a change for one of your relay legs that you entered through Milesplit, please notify the timer and fill out a new relay card.

TIMES MUST BE F.A.T. VERIFIED. NO EXCEPTIONS!

The meet will be sanctioned by the NFHS for Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. More states can be added, but you must be a bordering state to Tennessee.

THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE.

WHO CAN COME?

In Tennessee, all public and private high schools (Grades 8-12 or 9-12) in the following counties are eligible automatically: Carter, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington.

In Virginia, all public and private high schools (Grades 8-12 or 9-12) in the following counties are automatically eligible: Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise and Wythe.

ALL OTHER SCHOOLS WISHING TO PARTICIPATE MUST BE ACCEPTED BY THE MEET DIRECTOR.

OUT-OF-AREA SCHOOLS ARE CAPPED AT FIVE (5) AND IT WILL BE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. A MINIMUM OF FOUR ATHLETES COUNTS AS A TEAM, ACCORDING TO NFHS RULES.

OUT-OF-AREA SCHOOLS MUST CONFIRM THEY ARE COMING BY THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1!

INDIVIDUALS WISHING TO COMPETE ALSO MUST BE ACCEPTED BY THE MEET DIRECTOR, BUT DO NOT COUNT AGAINST THE OUT-OF-AREA TEAM COUNT. NO UNATTACHED ATHLETES ARE ALLOWED, ACCORDING TO TSSAA RULES. ALL ATHLETES MUST REPRESENT THEIR SCHOOL.

Please email Meet Director Tanner Cook (runtanrun94@gmail.com) for requests.

School administration asks that teams NOT set up tents on the home side of the bleachers. Instead, teams may set up anywhere else along the pathway of the fence on the grounds of the facility.

Unless you have permission from meet management, are an athlete getting ready to compete or a coach, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE INFIELD.

Meet management will post an accepted entries list to Milesplit along with five alternates per event shortly after the entry window closes. The descending order list will be emailed beforehand to each coach with at least one participating athlete.

There are entry standards. The table below shows the minimum marks.

These standards are calculated based on the average of the last (if fewer than nine participants in the event) or ninth-place (if nine or more participants in the event) finisher over the last 10 editions of the meet.

If your athletes have a mark better than the standards, they will have a good chance at getting in. Just because your athlete meets a standard, however, does not guarantee entry into the meet.

If your athletes are a LONG way off the standard, then there is no need to enter them. These sorts of entries will be automatically rejected by the system.

Meet Records (FAT and Hand-held)

Unofficial Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia All-Time Bests

**Coaches, if one of your athletes is an alternate, bring them to the meet. There is a chance that one of the top 18 entries will scratch and your athlete will have the opportunity to compete. We want to have as many full sections/flights as possible.**

**Local coaches: Meet Management will assign your coaching staff to a random field event. Meet Management will email assignments the week of the meet. I will assign three coaching staff exchange zones for the 4x100, 4x200 along with the 4x400 at the break line.**

Medals will be given to the top three in every event. There may also be some additional prizes for the winners of each event.

Plaques will be given to the "Most Outstanding" performer on the boys and girls side for both field and running events.

A special ceremony will be held after the field events conclude to recognize the field events performers and at the end of the meet to recognize the running events athletes.

We ask that athletes that are in consideration for the award stick around until the end for photo opportunities with the presenters. The Meet Director will notify a coach if one of your athletes is in consideration.
