Lady Buffs dominate distance races at Bobcat Invite

(MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN) April 8th, 2006 --- For the second time in as many weeks the Milligan College women's track and field team swept the middle distance and distance events, this time at the Lees McRae Bobcat Invitational in Banner Elk, NC. The Lady Buffs finished second overall in the team scoring behind Roanoke College.

Teams competing included Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill, St. Andrews, Tusculum, and Queens University.The athletes battled cold temperatures, wind gusts, and rain showers throughout the meet.

Sophomore Kortney Goulds (Johnson City, Tn.) started off the meet with a win and new personal best in the 3000 meters. Freshman Jacklyn Talbert (Mt. Carmel, Tn.) followed up with a win in the 1500 meters. Talbert also set a new personal best.

Sophomore Brittany Bales (Kingsport, Tn.) won the women's 800 meters, and anchored Milligan's victorious 4 x 400 meter relay team that consisted of Talbert, Goulds, and freshman Ashley Pearce (St. Cloud, Fla.). Pearce finished sixth in the 1500 meters in a new personal best, just behind sophomore Erika Fox (Gambrills, MD) who won her heat to finish fifth overall.

Sophomore Kristen Bartlett (Simseropol, Ukraine) finished runner-up in the 200 meters and 400 meters, while Freshman Nicole Moore (Boise, ID) finished fourth in the 3000 meters.

On the men's side, senior All-American Chris Wright (Ocean City, MD) finished third in the 3000 meters and second in the 800 meters. Junior Jair Collie (Johnson City, Tn.) finished sixth in the 3000 meters.

Both squads are in action next week at the Brevard Invitational on April 12 and the Sea Ray Relays held April 14-15 at UT's Tom Black Track www.tenntrack.com.
