Track team excels at Milligan College Open

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (March 29, 2006)---The Milligan College men\'s and women\'s track and field teams had a successful showing with 11 top five finishes and five wins as the host team at the Milligan College Open Wednesday at Johnson City\'s Liberty Bell Track and Field Complex.

The Milligan women were able to capture both first and second place in the 4x800 relay, including a school record time of 9:53:41 set by the team of Kortney Goulds (Johnson City, Tenn.), Brittany Bales (Kingsport, Tenn.), Ashley Pearce (St. Cloud, Fla.) and Jacklyn Talbert (Mt. Carmel, Tenn.)

Megan Lease (Camden, N.C.) won the women's 3000 meter with a time of 10:39:55; nearly a minute faster than her closest competitor. Talbert won the women\'s 800 meters, while Brittany Bales set a school record and won the women\'s 400 meters.

Kristen Bartlett (Simseropol, Ukraine) placed fourth in the 200 meters with a personal best time of 28:08.

The Lady Buffs also took four of the top five places in the 1500 meters, with Goulds leading the pack with the win and a national qualifying time of 4:45:52. Lindsey Davis (Johnson City, Tenn.) placed third, Nicole Moore (Boise, Id.) placed fourth, and Erika Fox (Gambrills, Md.) placed fifth, all in personal best times.

On the men's side, Seth Harkins (Street, Md.) placed fourth in the shot put competition and fifth in javelin, while senior All-American Chris Wright (Ocean City, Md.) completed an impressive double with a second place finish in the 3000 meters and eighth place finish in the 1500 meters in 4:02.

The Milligan track team will be back in competition on April 12, at the Brevard College Invitational in Brevard, N.C.
