In the first scoring event, Miller Mabury ran the third fastest 60m Hurdles with this run of 8.72 securing 809 points, his highest output in any of the five events.

If you're asking yourself "Who is Miller Mabury?" you're not alone. The now junior from Battle Ground Academy had to cut his sophomore season short due to a back injury that was so severe he couldn't tie his shoes. Much of the remaining spring and summer of 2023 was spent in a back brace. He's healthy now and is already making up for lost time. In his first indoor competition this year with Kindersport, he won the high jump at the Galleria Games with a PR of 6' 4.75" which currently leads the state. This past weekend, traveled to warmer temperatures and won an Indoor Pentathlon at the RADD Sunshine Showcase in Gainesville, Florida with a US #1 of 3564.

The question now becomes, how does Mabury impact the Division II Class A landscape? Can he possibly dethrone FRA's recent dominance in the Decathlon?
Below is a comparison of his indoor times from the past two months against the best mark in the Decathlon for Division II Class A last May:
Event | 2024 Mabury | 2023 Dec. Best |
22-3.75 | 22-2.5 | |
6-4.75 | 6-0 | |
50.56 | 51.71 | |
40-9 | 40-4 |

Moreover, Mabury would rank first overall in the long jump and second overall in the 400m and high jump against returners in his division this spring. So there's no doubt he will be in the running for several open events this May, the main question mark on the Decathlon front is how well does he Pole Vault? He has no documented marks to this point and the defending champion, Griffin Frankfather, can go 14 feet. Assuming he can clear 10, that's still a 300 point deficit he'll need to make up in other events. Nevertheless, he has impressed so far this indoor season and is a name you need to know moving forward.
