Eastman Third Tennessean In 2023 Over 12 Feet In Pole Vault

Three Over Twelve

Prior to this indoor season, only 6 girls from Tennessee had ever cleared twelve feet in the pole vault and only two had ever done so in the same season. After Saturday the total number now sits at eight and the most in any given season is now three. In December, Holly Schreiber of USN/Axis Athletics became the first with her first vault in her career over twelve with a 12-2.75 at the Galleria Games. Caroline Weems (St. Agnes Academy/Memphis Vault Club) who was one of the previously mentioned six, reached new heights in 2023 when she set a new state record in the event last month at 13-0.75. On Saturday, Fiona Eastman, Flicky Sticks, joined them at Adidas Track Nationals during a jump off clearing 12-3.5. The clearance won her the National Elite title. Eastman's previous best coming into the meet was 11-3. She ended last outdoor season at just 10 feet where she finished runner up in the Class A division at state. She's only a sophomore and the state record of 13-0 outdoors may not stand this crop of vaulters for much longer.
