BAPTIST SPORTS MEDICINE PARTNERS WITH TSSAA TO BUILD SPORTS ADVISORY COUNCIL

-Tennessee Sports Medicine Advisory Council to advise athletes on healthy sports activity-

Nashville, Tenn. – Baptist Sports Medicine and the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) announced today a partnership to build the new Tennessee Sports Medicine Advisory Council (TnSMAC).

TnSMAC will consist of an independent group of medical professionals throughout the state of Tennessee to provide sound medical advice to administrators, coaches, parents and student-athletes on critical issues related to participation in athletics.

“We are proud to work with the TSSAA on this partnership, which will benefit athletes across the state,” said Alexander Pinto, Athletic Medicine Director of Baptist Sports Medicine and Associate Director of TnSMAC. “We’ve worked hand-in-hand with the TSSAA over the past year to develop the best practices and arrange a strong group of sports medicine professionals to offer the best advice to our state’s athletic community.”

Although the group is founded through the Baptist Sports Medicine and TSSAA partnership, the new council will ultimately be an independent organization for the benefit of all Tennessee athletes. As a statewide initiative, TnSMAC representatives will be available to consult with athletic organizations on all levels of competition and provide recommendations on health related matters ranging from heat policies during warm summer months to the appropriate care for specific injuries, such as a concussion. Baptist Sports Medicine will continue to provide sideline care at all TSSAA championship events.

“We are extremely thankful to Baptist Sports Medicine for partnering with us on this initiative,” said Bernard Childress, Executive Director of the TSSAA. “This will be a great benefit and service that anyone involved in high school athletics across our state can take advantage of.”
