8. Brian Risse wins 1000m for first individual state title
It was a feel good moment for Brian Risse (North Lincoln) to win his first NCHSAA Individual State Championship in the 1000m. Risse was rolling, on pace for 2:30 with a 1:29 through the 600m and a 2:01 through the 800m. Win the win well within his reach he decided to listen to his coach and shut it down to focus on the 3200m later in the day. But Risse had been contending since his sophomore year and come up short many times with a lot of all-state finishes. He got the job done yesterday checking off a long term goal.
