Day 1 -- TN State Track & Field Championships
The first day of the TN State championship Track & Field meet is always an exciting time of the season. The Pentathlon -- five events including 100 Hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump and then a tough 800M run -- is where the states girls take center stage.
The A-AA section saw a bit of a shake up with the top qualifiers. There was a pretty tight contest between Grenetria Shell (East Nashville) and Lennex Walker (Chattanooga School of Arts & Sciences). Lennex won the 100 Hurdles to start out with nine points more than Grenetria and threw a 29-4 in the shot that was two feet longer than Grenetria. But in the end, Grenetria bettered Lennex in the long jump, high jump and ran to a second place finish in the 800 with a fast 2:23.60 that was 179 points more than Lennex. Finishing with 3242 points gave Grenetria the first title of State Champion for these games this year. Lennex took home runner up spot with a total point mark of 3030 which ...
