2014 Tri-Cities Sets New Standard

04/21/14 - Johnson City. In the second year of the Tri-Cities Track Classic, an increase not only in terms of the amount of athletes but also the increase in competition was the talk of the meet. With 19 out 0f 21 girl and 18 out of 21 boy records going down, the 1250 athletes continually produced top marks and personal bests. Hoover High School made the 5 hour drive up to Science Hill High School for the event and headed back home with two David E. Walker team trophies sweeping the titles. Rusty Provins (Cumberland Gap) and Brittley Humphrey (Hoover) took the meet MVP plaques. Provins swept the throws defeating 2013 MVP and defending champion Evan McCracken. These two have seen each other several times over the years and their competitions never dissapoint. Throwing a monster 61 foot throw to break the 60 foot barrier for the first time, Provins looks like he is ready to defend his state title. Humphrey showed she is in top form heading into her post season in Alabama. Winning the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, leading her champion shuttle relay team and finishing runner-up in the 4x400, her bag was stuffed with plaques signifying her place as champion.

Music, live video and live results made this event unlike any many of these athletes have seen. Teams from as far away as Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Alabama were excited to make the trek back to Johnson City in 2015. The KYA staff want to thank all of the amazing officials, volunteers, Science Hill staff, coaches and all the athletes who, in two years, have turned a dream into a reality that can only keep getting better!

See you in 2015!
