Schmitt leads Milligan women to three national qualifiers

February 17, 2007 --- Milligan College sophomore Emily Schmitt (Avon, Ind.) finished third at the Strawberry Plains Half-Marathon Saturday morning to lead three Milligan women to automatic national qualifiers for the marathon at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Fresno, Ca this coming May.

 

Schmitt's time of 1:27 was also a new school record, bettering the previous mark of 1:28 set last year by Megan Lease at the same race.

 

Joining Schmitt were sophomore Nicole Moore (Boise, Id.) and junior Erika Fox (Gambrills, Md.), who finished 2nd and 3rd in their respective age group and top ten overall in the women's race. Both ran 1:30 for the 13.1 mile course.

 

Both the men's and women's teams are back in action next weekend at the VIC Indoor/Outdoor Invitational in Bristol, Tenn. before playing host the NAIA Indoor National Championships March 8-10 at ETSU's Memorial Center.
