TMSAA A/AA Section 2 Championship 2023

Meet Information

2023 TMSAA Sectional Championships

Coaches please READ BEFORE ENTERING MEET

A school employed coach must be present with the athletes in order for them to compete! You cannot send the athletes with a parent or nonschool employee as their chaperone due to liability. It is also a requirement that a coach from each school work an event, which will be posted next week!!

Deadline for entries is Wednesday, 4/26/23 at 11:00 PM.

We will be hosting both the A and AA divisions on the same day and at the same times. Please be aware and make sure you enter your school in the correct division. Also be sure to look over the schedule and be able to tell your athletes and parents exactly when your athletes will compete. We will have multiple high jump pits, runways/sand pits, throwing circles, being utilized at the same time.  We will also run the running events so that one division will follow the other division as we proceed through the order of events. You can use the following link to see if you are in the correct Section:

TMSAA Classification

Before entering you will need to know: (1) That you are in this Section. (2) Are you a small "A" school, or are you a large "AA" school? (3) Do you know which division to enter based on this information?

Each athlete may compete in no more than 3 total events!

There should be 2 divisions listed as possibilities for entry into this meet: A - Small School and AA - Large School.  Please make sure you choose correctly.

It is up to each school's coach to make sure you choose the correct division when entering the meet!

According to TMSAA rules, each school is allowed to enter up to 3 athletes per event, and 1 relay team for each relay. Top 4 individuals in each event and the Top 4 relay teams will advance to the TMSAA State Championships to be held at Austin Peay University! Good Luck to all!!!

Tickets for Entry:

We have had a change in our ticket policy. Cash will be accepted at the gate. You can still purchase tickets online or at the gate for $7.00 (including a$1.00 convenience fee) using a card. If you buy tickets before hand, you will not have to wait in line to enter. Cash tickets will be $7.00 at the gate. You can use the following link to buy tickets online before you arrive.

We do accept cash and card at the concession stand.

Please park in designated areas. Buses may pull to front of school in single file.

We have decided to allow each coach the ability to come up with their own standards for this year. The hope is that each coach will not treat this meet as an "all comers" meet and understand that this is a championship meet and entries should be treated as such. Because the coaches from the sections in A and AA classifications have not voted on official standards then each team is allowed the three entries in individual events and 1 relay. However, I would be careful not to put athletes in who might be embarrassed by their participation. We will have a more formal discussion this year about you all voting on standards. I am only capable of upholding those standards once they have been voted on. The coaches from WB (AA) and Alcoa (A) have agreed to facilitate those conversations and voting before next season. We will talk about that at the sectional. I will not be providing any recommended standards. It is just not fair for me to do since I am a high school coach and they need to be different with each classification.

Coaches Assignments for Field Events & Relays

Updated 11:00 a.m. on April 28, 2023

I will post coaching assignments after the deadline for entries on April 26 and can see where teams have participants entered.  Please understand I will do the best I can to keep people near some of their best athletes, but after that it was just a blind draw.  The expectation is that whatever assignment you are given one coach from each school be at that event to help work it.  If you know nothing about the event you are assigned to do, you need to look online and find out about it.  Each event is for both girls and boys in your classification.  For example, if you have A long jump, then you will work both girls and boys.  I will have some of my athletes there to help with raking, disc retrieval, etc., but they are not allowed to be involved with the actual administration of an event like this.

A - Field Events (Both Girls and Boys):

High Jump - Alcoa, Lenoir City, Soddy Daisy

Long Jump - Gatlinburg-Pittman, Pigeon Forge, Orchard Knob, Athens

Shot Put - Gibbs, Tellico Plains, Madisonville, Jacksboro

Discus - Fort Loudon, Lafollette, McMinn East, Cherokee

AA - Field Events (Both Girls and Boys):

High Jump - Jefferson, Northview, Lake Forest, William Blount

Long Jump - West Valley, Maryville, Cleveland, Carter

Shot Put - Farragut, Rhea, Robertsville, Halls

Discus - Ocoee, Karns, Hardin Valley, Powell

A/AA - Exchange Zone Judges (you will work all 4 relay races for both classifications and genders):

A/AA - 4 X 100 Meter Relay -

Zone 1 - Christ's Legacy, Cedar Bluff, Heritage

Zone 2 - North, Bearden, Norris

Zone 3 - South Doyle, Chattanooga School of Arts, Whittle Springs

A/AA - 4 X 200 Meter Relay -

Zone 1 - Christ's Legacy, Cedar Bluff, Heritage

Zone 2 - North, Bearden, Norris

Zone 3 - Powell, Chattanooga School of Arts, Whittle Springs

Runners will need to check in to the bull pen area by the second call of their event.  Check in for the field events will be at the event site.  Any athlete who has not checked in by the third call will be scratched from the event.  Runners will remain in the bull pen area after check in until the clerk comes to walk them to the start line.

1/4" spikes or shorter must be used.  Tape will not be allowed at the facility.  All marking tools will be provided by us.

Throwing implements will be weighed under the check in tent.  Implements that do not weigh properly or are misshaped will be impounded until after the field events are completed. We had lots of shots last year that did not meet the weight. Please make sure you are 4 kg. for boys and 6 lbs. for girls.

We do not allow tents in our bleachers.  Team tents can be set up in the grass on the outside of the track facility through the first turn and down the back stretch. I would advise bringing tarps, chairs and tents.

Spectators are not allowed in the event areas or on the inside of the track. If a parent is located in an area that is off limits, their athlete will be disqualified from the competition. This is a safety concern! Spectators are allowed to move around the outside of the track area to sit and watch the field events.

A concession stand will be open for competitors and spectators and will accept cash and card.
