Pioneer Invitational - August 28, 2021

In Memoriam of Gerald Tidwell (WCMS Principal)

We are excited to announce that we will be holding our annual Pioneer Invitational again this year, which will be open to both the MS and HS cross country teams, and we will be honoring our former MS principal Gerald Tidwell who passed away suddenly this year. We have a timing company all set so I will need each school to please register on this Milesplit page and once you have registered I will need ALL COACHES to please email me a roster of the runners who are entered to run. Please specify school, grade and gender. You can send them to Kellyp@warrenschools.com. After you are finished registering you will then be alerted if anything changes prior to race day.

I will also be holding a Zoom meeting again to explain arrival, tent areas, race line, timing, parking and all other information for race day. The meeting will be on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26th at 7:00pm and I will send a link to log on the day of the meeting. Please try to attend this Zoom meeting in order to be prepared to enter our venue AND park your vehicles correctly as this is a VERY large event which uses the perimeter of the school so everyone needs to know what to do once at the race. If you cannot attend the meeting please contact me at Kellyp@warrenschools.com so we can discuss everything and I can send you the maps I go over in the zoom meeting. The venue will open at 8:00am and teams will be let into the venue FIRST, followed by spectators being let in at 8:30am.

Race Location: Warren County Middle School - 200 Caldwell Street McMinnville, TN 37110

Entry Fee Per School: This years entry fee will be $50.00 per school (MS or HS team) because it is a special race in that this year's race will be a memorial race for our former Middle School principal, Gerald Tidwell, who passed away suddenly earlier this year. The entry fee will still be to cover all the awards, plaques and the timing company but with all the leftover proceeds going into a new scholarship created in Mr. Tidwells name. This man is the reason I was able to form a cross country team at WCMS 8 years ago and if it were not for this man we wouldn't be able to hold this amazing race he so generously lets us put on every year (even during Covid times at the start last year he let me take safety precautions so these kids could have a race) so I hope together we can honor his memory and help start a scholarship for a very deserving athlete upon graduation so his name lives on in school sports forever!  - Check can be sent to WCMS OR Cash/Check given on day of race. Make checks payable to WCMS Cross Country.

Race Awards: There will be awards for both MS and HS with medals awarded to the top 10 finishers to cross the line in each race as well as a plaque for the winning team and for the runner up. MS awards will  be handed out after the last MS race is complete and same for the HS races. All awards will be handed out and announced out in front of the home side bleachers in the football stadium. Results will be posted on here shortly after the race.
