Shot Put

Mensi Stiff won the shot put competition this morning with throw that was a little over 51 Feet. It was the third time she's thrown during indoor and each time was at Vanderbilt. The last time was unattached at a collegiate meet where she tweaked her left leg a little and the bandage she had on today was noticeable. It wasn't enough to interfere with a victory and she still has here eyes set on throwing at the Amory later this month.

The first time I saw Drake Carlson throw was at the FRA Highland games in 2019. He was in 8th grade at the time but looked more polished in the discus ring than most high schoolers I had seen up to that point. It's kind of sad that there won't be many opportunities left but if Sunday is any indicator, he's ready to leave his mark before he moves on the gridiron full time. His 58-4 was a new PR, two feet better than he ended outdoor season, and clear of the next competitor by three and a half feet.

Long Jump

The last time Sophie Yount jumped at Vanderbilt she almost jumped over 19 feet. Today she barely broke 18 but it was still enough to ensure a victory edging out freshman horizontal jumps phenom Addison Belletete by just .01 meters. Yount has a full day ahead of her still with the high jump and the 4x400m relay later. Belletete will have opportunity for victory later as she is seeded second in the triple.

Pole Vault

Caroline Weems has been chasing a 13 foot vault since we talked to her during the outdoor preseason last year and though she had a successful outdoor campaign, the height evaded her but on Sunday that ended.

A new state record for the senior that's headed to Knoxville next fall.

Triple Jump

As a senior who already is heavily invested in the multi-events, I wouldn't think throwing in a specialty event on top of the five to seven you're already practicing would be in the cards but Kiersten Bell is doing just that. The Samford commit won the triple jump today with 38 foot 5 finch jump which is over a two foot improvement over any of her previous marks.  She also set a new PR in the high jump with a clearance of 5-1. Club teammate Addison Belletete finished second with 37-5, her second runner up finish of the day in the horizontal jumps.
