Girls Track

Girls 800m Run

The defending Division I Class AAA State Champion Gabrielle Boulay kept on winning on Sunday with a new indoor/outdoor PR time of 2:13.47. The Centennial High School senior and Mississippi State commit never trailed over the 800m race dragging the field with her to an opening 30 second first 200 meters clearing the field by the end by almost a full three seconds. Darrah Wiseman and Maddie Archdale rounded out the top three both finishing under 2:17.

Girls 60m, 200m

D-Elite's Danielle Dunning set two PRs on Sunday and took with her two victories in the short sprints. She started by setting a new 60m dash state meet record with a 7.48 then won the 200m dash with a 24.67. She had already run an indoor PR of 24.63 in prelims. It was the deepest field of sprinters we'll likely see this season beating out some out of division favorites like Brenay Williams, Avia Lane, Alima Kassim, and up and comers Kymora-Lee Williams and Chloe Truss.

Girls 1 Mile

While she's had multiple victories on the cross country course every fall and several victories on the track, none of them occurred last spring. It was the first high school season that Maddie Archdale did not cross the finish line at least once in an open race. If Sunday is any indicator of what's to come this outdoor season, more victories appear to be on the horizon. Archdale sat behind the leaders on Sunday for most of he race before make an aggressive move with 400 meters to go to set a new PR in the mile of 5:05 and cross the finish line in first once again. She would follow this up running a leg on the HVA 4x400m relay that finished 6th in 4:08.

Girls 400m

Up until this indoor season, Houston's Eva Gautreaux's indoor racing hasn't quite lived up to the numbers she was able to produce in outdoor. But after five races at the 400m distance she's PR'd every meet methodically lowering her time to Sunday's 57.23 en route to her first win of the indoor season. It lowered her best by almost a full second and she needed every bit of it as Abby Miller challenged her to the end running a PR of her own at 57.89. With Eriyanna Reed graduated, the 400m outdoor for Division I AAA is up for grabs and I expect both of these sprinters will be vying for it come May.

Girls 2 Mile

The two times we've seen Abby Faith Cheeseman run in state this year she's posted impressive two mile efforts. At the time, her 10:33 was good enough for US #5. It's since slipped down to sixteen but her 10:12 vaulted her back up to US #3. Both were solo efforts so I'll be curious to see how much this number will improve with other high caliber girls around her when she goes to one of the national indoor meets in a couple of weeks.

Girls 60m Hurdles

The last time Evie Culbreath lost a high hurdle event to an in state opponent was the 2021 State Championship. Her streak continued on Sunday with a victory in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.62. She's stayed consistent this season in the event over her indoor campaign with finals ranging from from 8.76 down to 8.59. It's an impressive cluster of times considering just last year that range was 9.19 to 8.96.
