Mentz Second on Day One at Indiana Relays
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Junior Michael Mentz placed second in the men's 3000-meter Invitational on Day One of the Indiana Relays at Gladstein Track and four Chattanooga runners qualified for the Saturday finals.
Mentz ran the race in a time of 8:33.32 in the Invitational race of 21 runners. Jeff Taylor, with a time of 8:42.28 was 11th in the race. In the men's 3000m open race, Kevin Huwe placed 16th with a time of 9:08.48.
Kathleen Turchin, who missed every cross country race except the Southern Conference championships, returned to the track Friday. She finished second in the unseeded women's Mile Run at 5:10.25.
In other women's races, Emily Woods qualified for the finals of the 600-meter run, placing ninth in a time of 1:38.67. In the Open Mile Run, Nettie Halcomb was 11th with a time of 2:20.08.
In the men's races, Tim Clark placed third in the Open Mile Run, qualifying for the Saturday finals with a time of 4:18.78. Michael Denahy also qualified for his race on Saturday placing 10th in the 600m run with a time of 1:22.40.
In field events, Brandon Golder will compete in the Long Jump Saturday with a qualifying 11th place jump of 6.83 meters.
