Signal Mountain's Preston Elwell Earns Javelin Silver Medal

Preston Elwell broke his own Signal Mountain High School record in the javelin by more than seven feet with a 173' 8" throw and earned him the silver medal in the Emerging Elite category at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at Greensboro, NC on Friday.   That performance ended a whirlwind week for Elwell that started with a 10th place finish in the javelin (162-0) at the Great Southwest Track and Field Classic in Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, June 7th and then a winning throw of 167-2 in the javelin at the AAU District Qualifier meet in Montgomery, AL on Sunday, June 8.

The New Balance Outdoor Nationals is the country's pre-eminent high school track and field post-season invitational, hosting more than 3000 of the nation's finest track and field athletes each June.
