Virtual Meet: How Reclassification Will Impact Class A, AA

Pearl Cohn and Alcoa account for the last five boy's State Titles for Class A dating back to 2018. They're both in Class AA starting this spring.

TSSAA Reclassification

As we approach the 2024 outdoor season, some may not yet realize they are no longer competing in the class they were last season. Reclassification, which used to occur every four years now occurs every two. This is a welcome change considering all the people moving to Tennessee and the growth occurring in certain areas that may be outpacing others. If you would like to see the official release of the 2023-2025 classes you can click here. For your convenience, here are the teams moving up or down this cycle.

While that may only be twenty teams, the amount of consequential programs on the move is going to be felt immediately. Page Boys, Alcoa Girls, and Pearl Cohn Boys won team titles last spring and move into larger competitive classifications for 2024.

Based on returning athletes, assuming they have not changed schools, here are the team point projections based on their best 2023 scholastic performances:

Class A Team Projections

Girls

Boys

1. Memphis Middle College - 55
2. East Nashville Magnet - 38
3. Tellico Plains High School - 36

1. Union City High School - 52.33
2. Memphis Academy S&E - 43.5
2. Camden Central High School- 36

Class AA Team Projections

Girls

Boys

1. Station Camp High School - 65
2. Martin Luther King High School - 60
3. Signal Mountain High School - 44.5

1. Signal Mountain High School - 58
2. Pearl Cohn High School - 42
3. Volunteer High School - 34

Note: Class AAA was not pulled because many scorers on the girls side have switched schools since last year and the projections would not be accurate. Also, on the boys side, the query was too large to aggregate due to the amount of performances and you will encounter an error. Working to resolve that issue.
