  • Track Knoxville Season Opener: 10 Athletes 18 PR

    Clemson, SC. (Jan. 28, 2006) –The Clemson High School Invitational brought over 1,000 athletes to the University of Clemson’s beautiful new indoor track and field complex to compete this past weekend. Athletes from Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Tennessee were all in attendance to witness an absolutely fabulous performance by many of the southeast region’s best track and field athletes.

    The meet director was unable to salvage the Nashville Track Classic. From my understanding there was just not enough entries to justify having the meet. I was told they will try to host the meet again in a year or so.

    Track Knoxville has formed to develop the talent and personal discipline of young athletes at the highest level. Our goal is to build a nationally respected all-star team of Tennessee’s best high school track and field athletes. Our program is focused on the physical, mental and educational development of our young promising athletes. These athletes will have the chance to travel the country competing in regional and national competitions on the USA Track and Field circuit.

  • 2006 TSSAA Cross-Country State Meet will be 5K!

    From the reports that I have received TSSAA has decided to make the 2006 cross-country state meet a 5k race, like the coaches association has been working on for two years now. The wording I have gotten is local races can be three mile or 5k, but the state meet is 5K.

  • NCAA Policy Concerning Athlete Travel Reimbursement

    There have been numerous questions concerning travel expense reimbursement to National level high school meets for athletes, coaches and parents. Please refer to the NCAA policy concerning this. In short, providing travel expenses to parents and/or coaches is not permitted unless all parents and coaches of all athletes in a meet are reimbursed. (This does not apply to the athletes themselves, as reimbursing legitimate travel expenses is perfectly acceptable).

  • Lady Buffs earn national marks at Virginia Tech

    (Blacksburg, Va.) --- The Milligan College women's track team earned three NAIA national qualifiers on day one of the Virginia Tech Invitational Friday at the Hokies Rector Fieldhouse. The Buffs and Lady Buffs faced teams from the Univ. of Maryland, Virginia Tech, George Mason, James Madison, UNC-Charlotte, Georgetown, Virginia, VMI, and Norfolk State.

  • Lakeview

    Josh Bradley, a senior at Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe High School in Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., signed scholarship papers to become the newest Lion for the 2006 cross country season. Josh finished eleventh in the Georgia Class 4A cross country state championships this past fall. He was named to the first team "Best of Preps" by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

  • STARTING A RUNNING/FITNESS TRAINING PROGRAM

    EVALUATE YOUR CURRENT PHYSICAL CONDITION: The first order of business is to visit your physician to ensure that your physical condition warrants starting a running/fitness program. This will provide a base line for future comparison as you improve your fitness level. At this point you should also start a training diary or log. Included in that log should be your current vitals, such as resting heart rate, weight and HDL/LDL cholesterol numbers

  • Brazilian Bastos Wins 13th Annual Walt Disney World Marathon

    LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 8, 2006) – Brazilian Adriano Bastos led start to finish Sunday en route to his third victory in the 13 th annual Walt Disney World Marathon. Bastos, 27, of Sao Paulo posted a time of 2:19:44 to lead the field of more than 10,000 participants in the full marathon.

  • Michigan Runners Sweep Walt Disney World Half Marathon

    LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Jan. 7, 2006) – On an unseasonably chilly day, Michigan runners Josh Eberly and Melissa White expectedly weathered the cool conditions and a record field to win the men's and women's divisions of the prestigious Walt Disney World Half Marathon. Eberly, 25, of Rochester, Mich., ran the 13.1-mile course at Walt Disney World in a time of 1:08:12 to lead a throng of more than 17,000 participants, the largest field in the 13-year history of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. White, 24, cruised to the finish line in 1:18:34.

  • Virginia Tech Invitational

    The Virginia Tech invitational will be held at Rector Field House January 27-28, 2006. There have been some changes in format. The meet will be a fully sanctioned NFHS event for the District of Columbia and the states of Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
