Next up in our preseason rankings series is Division II Large Schools.
Brentwood Academy enters as the three-time defending champion in this division. The Eagles are the first team to ever win three straight state cross country titles in this division. And they enter 2018 as the top team in our combined rankings.
BA returns pretty much everybody. Matthew McMillan, Matthew Porter and George Payne are all back. Or as their teammates call them..."The Three Amigos."
The Eagles have a veteran-laden team that will be a force to be reckoned with all season across the Southeast. Youngster Cayden Durrough, who ran 16:35 last season, will be in the mix for a top-five finish at the state meet as well. Combine that with the experience of Eddie Lunn and you've got the strongest top five in Tennessee to enter the season.
Brentwood Academy's one-through-five average time of 16:26 is the fastest in any division across Tennessee entering the 2018 season. And they're the only team to enter the season sub-16:30 as a top five.
But they'll be challenged by the likes of McCallie and Montgomery Bell Academy.
MBA is led by the 800 meter state champion Graham Ragsdale. He comes in with a 16:31 PR, good for fourth in the league. McCallie has a tight one-through-five split of just 30 seconds, which is best in the division. Walton Bedell, Samuel Ligon and Duke Richey make a talented trio. They'll be at the front of the pack anytime the Blue Tornado toes the line this season.
And when it comes time to compete for a championship, being able to pack up and help one another is vital.
Here are how the rankings shape up as we enter the 2018 cross county season in DII-Large Schools.
