Maglasang & Carter Named Conference USA All-Academic Team

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -Four University of Memphis student-athletes were named to the Conference USA Cross Country All-Academic Teams, the league announced Monday. Meagan Nichols, James Maglasang, Austin Carter and Daniel Kuhman took the honors, with Memphis tying Rice for the most selections.

"I'm very proud of these student-athletes," cross country coach Doug Clark said. "The coaching staff and the team take pride in the academic and the athletic side of competition. I feel this is reflective in the number of athletes named to the team and the number of athletes on a squad that carry a GPA of 3.2 or better."

Nichols received the women's team nod, carrying a 4.00 GPA while majoring in journalism. The junior is a two-time C-USA Academic Medal honoree (2011, 2012) and has twice been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. This season, Nichols competed in every meet for the Tigers, helping the women's squad score two top-10 team finishes, with one of those being a win at the Rhodes College Invitational.

The Paducah, Ky., native carries a 3.25 GPA majoring in biomedical engineering and has twice been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. Kuhman appears on the All-Academic Team for the first time. The sophomore carries a 3.79 GPA with an undecided major. The Elyria, Ohio, native was named to the 2012 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and was a 2012 C-USA Academic Medal honoree. Kuhman racked up three top-10 finishes this season, and took All-CUSA honors with his 14th-place finish at the 2012 C-USA Cross Country Championships. The sophomore capped off the 2012 season taking All-Region honors with a 24th-place finish at the NCAA South Region Championship.
