BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana Tech’s sprinters were on display to the state of Louisiana as Tech competed at the LSU Alumni Gold on Saturday in Baton Rouge.
Chelsea Hayes ran the second-fastest time in the 200m in Louisiana Tech history, placing second with a time of 23.10. That mark currently ranks her fifth in the NCAA East performance list and likely qualifies her for NCAA postseason competition in a third event alongside the 100m dash and the long jump.
The 4x100m relay team of Kimberly Smith, Hayes, Stacia Hanneman and Victoria Wade ran 44.71, a time that ranks 16th in the NCAA East performance list.
In the 100m hurdles invitational, Kim Francis ran 13.67 to finish sixth while Taneka Henderson finished third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.57.
Marcella LeBlanc threw a personal best shot put throw of 49-3.75 (15.03m) to finish second while Micara Vassell placed 10th with a throw of 46-2.5 (14.08m).
In the long jump invitational, Kenyattia Hackworth placed third with a mark of 20-2.5 (6.16m) while Tia Mitchell won the open long jump competition with a jump of 19-6.75 (5.96m).
Josh Slocum finished third in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:40.71 and was followed by Steven Cortez’s fourth-place finish with a time of 15:47.71. Kyle Davis ran 9:52.69 in the steeplechase to place third.
Louisiana Tech closes out the regular season on April 28 at the Golden Eagle Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss. before heading to Moscow, Idaho for the 2012 Western Athletic Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
