APSU cross country teams each add one in early signing period

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University\'s men and women's cross country teams each added a runner to
their rosters during the early-signing period, which ended Wednesday. The men's team added Samuel Nelson, of Clarksville,
while the women's squad adds Breonna Brown, of Mt. Juliet, both signing letters of intent for the 2006 season.
Nelson competed for Rossview High School where he finished eighth – out of 191 runners – in the 2005 Tennessee Class
AAA cross country championships, completing the three-mile course in a time of 16:17. He is a two-time Region 5AAA
champion, winning the meet in 2004 and 2005. Nelson also finished fifth in the 2005 Midstate Championships with a personal-
best time of 15:58 over the three-mile trek.
"Sam will be expected to make an immediate impact for us next fall," said head coach Doug Molnar. "He is a tough runner
with a lot of strength which is a good match for our program. Sam is not afraid to get up near the front of the pack early in a
race and utlize his strength down the home stretch. Sam had an outstanding senior season that he capped off with his second
Regional Championship and a top-10 finish at the state meet. I know we will be a much stronger team next year with Sam in
the line-up."
Brown competed for Wilson Central High School where she finished 79th – out of 188 runners – in the 2005 Tennessee
Class AAA cross country championships, completing the three-mile course in 21:40.28. That performance followed a sixth-
place finish (20:19.34) at the Region 5AAA championships and a 10th-place finish at the 2005 Midstate Championships.
"Breonna is a very coachable athlete with a ton of potential," said Molnar. "She was a state qualifier in cross country this
year. She was the only girl on the team at Wilson Central, which I believe says a lot about her determination. She has great
body mechanics and I think she will really blossom as a college runner in our program."
