CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University women's track and
field team will look for fast times at East Tennessee State's Niswonger
Invitational, Saturday, in the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.
Austin Peay is one of approximately 90 teams and
more than 1500 athletes participating at the Niswonger Invitational. Teams
range from all NCAA divisions, including host East Tennessee, Appalachian
State, Davidson, Jackonsville State, Lipscomb, Vanderbilt, Alabama-Birmingham
and Charleston Southern
"We will be looking to take advantage of
great competition and a great facility," head coach Doug Molnar said. "This is
a great place to run fast. We still aren't at full strength as the flu continues
to hamper us. We look forward to posting some good times to set us up for the
conference meet in a few weeks."
The Lady Govs posted good results, last week,
at the TSU Invitational. Leigha Tollivar set a season-best 55-meter hurdle time
to finish third and Chiamaka Obi led three Lady Govs runners with season-best
times in the 200-meter dash. The distance crew showed its resiliency, led by
Xiamer Richard's second-place finish in the 5000-meter run.
Richards also led the distance-medley relay
team to a season-best time. The Lady Govs broke the four-minute mark for the
first time in the 4x400 relay and will be looking to improve on that time as
well. Molnar will be without Jasmin Scott, who anchored the 4x400 relay team,
as she is out with the flu. Distance runner Kayla Satterly also is out with the
flu.
In the field events, Tollivar will look to
regain the magic she had last year at the Niswonger Invitational where she set
the APSU freshman long-jump record. Cenitra Hudson also will be returning the
long and triple jump events after missing the TSU Invite with an injury.
"We continue to improve each week and we
expect the same and more this week," Molnar said. "We are also looking for both
of our relays to improve this week even with Scott on the sidelines."
