BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Freshman Xiamar Richards led Austin
Peay State University women's cross country team at NCAA South Regional
Championships, Saturday, at Veterans Park.
Only three Lady Govs made the trip to Birmingham and did
not record a team score. Florida State won the meet with 24 points - each of
its five scoring runners finishing among the top 10.
Richards led the Lady Govs effort with a time of 23:17.00,
finishing 139th overall in the six-kilometer event. Junior Janelle Avery was
161st with a time of 23:59.71 and sophomore Alyssa Molnar completed the course
with a time of 26:49.17, finishing 186th.
"Xiamar gave us an excellent effort today," said cross
country head coach Doug Molnar. "She broke our freshman mark in the
six-kilometer distance. It was a tough course with the runners battling unsure
footing. Given the conditions I thought our individuals ran a nice race."
