CLARKSVILLE - Junior Enock Langat and the Austin Peay
State University men's cross country team will travel eastward to compete in
the 9:45 a.m., Saturday, eight-kilometer Ohio Valley Conference Men's Cross
Country Championships hosted by Tennessee Tech at Southern Hills Golf Course in
Cookeville.
Langat will look to cap a strong 2010 campaign by
finishing among the top 14 at the championship and earning All-OVC recognition.
He has paced the Govs in all six races this season, leading the team to the
finish line, including a 17th-place overall finish in the 328-man Greater
Louisville Cross Country Classic's Blue Race, Oct. 2.
The Govs also will look to sophomore transfer Geofrey Kosgei and freshman Tyler Kepley to finish strong. Kosgei has been the Govs No.
2 runner in all four eight-kilometer races, finishing within 30 seconds of
Langat the last two outings. Kepley has improved his finishing spot overall in
each eight-kilometer race and was the Govs No. 3 finisher at the Fast Cats
Classic, Oct. 16.
Rounding out the top five will be junior Boniface Yator and
the combination of freshman Genaro Martinez or junior Evan Collins. Yator
slipped to fourth on the team by just seconds at the Fast Cats Classic while
Martinez and Collins have been the team's fifth or sixth runners in each of the
last three races. Sophomore Konnor Kessler also will seek to finish his
campaign on a strong note.
"This is the meet that we point to all year and the time
has arrived for us to perform," said Austin Peay head coach Doug Molnar. "Enock
has continued to impress this year with numerous top finishes; he is very
patient and works the course. Geofrey also continues to impress with his
finishes and Tyler keeps getting better and better as he was our number three
man last time out in Owensboro (Ky.). We'll need Langat and Kosgei up front and
our next three bunched tightly together to maximize our results."
