CLARKSVILLE - Austin Peay State University men's cross
country team returns to action following a week off when it competes in the 12:15
p.m., Saturday, eight-kilometer Fast Cats Classic at Yellow Creek Park in
Owensboro, Ky.
The race will serve as the Govs final chance to tune-up
their performance prior to the Ohio Valley Conference Championship two weeks
hence. The race will feature 11 men's teams, including Belmont and Southern
Indiana, the 15th ranked team at the Division II level.
Austin Peay has not encountered much team success at the
eight-kilometer distance, with a .346 win percentage in three races. Individually,
junior Enock Langat has led the Govs in each of their five races this season,
finishing among the field's top 20 in four of five races. Sophomore Geofrey Kosgei has been a reliable second with junior Boniface Yator following in
third.
"We need to work on pushing ourselves from mile three to
mile four," said APSU cross country head coach Doug Molnar. "Most runners tend
to settle after the three-mile mark, but we need to keep working forward. The
guys are pretty healthy and ready to run fast."
