NEW ORLEANS - For the third consecutive year, Austin Peay
State University women's track and field graduate Carrie Burggraf has been
named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association
(USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track and Field team.
Burgraff completed her four-year career at Austin Peay with
a 4.0 grade-point average in political science. She received one of the NCAA's
Postgraduate Scholarships and will continue her education at the University of
Pittsburgh, where she will focus on international studies with a concentration
in human security.
In June, Burgraff became the first two-time recipient of
the Ohio Valley Conference's Steve Hamilton Award which is given annually to an
OVC male or female student-athlete of junior or senior standing who best
exemplifies the characteristics of the late Morehead State student-athlete,
coach and administrator Steve Hamilton. Criteria include significant athletics
performance along with good sportsmanship and citizenship.
On the field, Burggraf was a six-time Ohio Valley
Conference pole vault champion, setting both the indoor and outdoor
championship records along the way. She also has competed in three NCAA Outdoor
Track Regionals during her career. In addition, Burggraf was voted the OVC
Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
To qualify individually for the USTFCCCA All-Academic
Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA
of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional
qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships
(including the preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
